Maria Conchita Alonso will star in El Secreto del Retrato, a feature film that is intended as the first of a slate of projects from Planet Films in Dallas, Texas. Maria Conchita will play a corrupted senator that uses her enormous wealth and power to destroy the dignity and reputation of politicians and innocent civilians in the eyes of the public. I have crafted a complicated role that allows a gifted actress (Alonso) to show the full range of her abilities, said filmmaker Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez.
Since arriving in the US, Alonso has starred opposite some of Hollywood’s most dynamic leading men, including Robin Williams in the acclaimed Moscow on the Hudson, Arnold Schwarzenegger in the futuristic Running Man, and Robert Duvall and Sean Penn in the controversial Colors.
The psychological drama El Secreto del Retrato is described as a multi-story tale that denounces various violations of human rights, such as child abuse, political and economic exploitation, corruption within government and religious institutions in America. I believe that a good story well told can truly make a difference in how one sees the world, especially if we include in our film talents with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs and from the wide political spectrum, all representative of our world.
The film includes the participation of 49 actors, from 19 countries from America and Europe including Academy Award–winning actor Louis Gossett Jr, leading actor Damian Alcazar and Maria Rojo from Mexico; Ana Obregon from Spain; Hemky Madera from the Dominican Republic; Eduardo Paxeco from Chile; Carlos Carrasco from Panama; Roberto Urbina from Colombia; and many others. I am currently attaching several academy award winning actors from the United States to this project and very soon they will be announced said Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez.
El Secreto del Retrato has attached Ricardo Jaques Gale as cinematographer and multi GOYA award winning editor, Pablo Blanco. In addition, we have attached the Italian art director and production designer Tamara Marini, who was the art director of The American with George Clooney, directed by Anton Corbijn; Duplicity with Julia Roberts, directed by Tony Gilroy; The Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino, directed by Michael Radford and “The Hills Have Eyes” directed by Alex Aja.
Planet Films is a production company that exists to tell compelling, entertaining stories that also creates awareness of the real issues that shape our lives. We seek to entertain audiences first, and then to invite the audience to participate in making a difference. This film will be distributed by Distrimax and Gussy Films, partners of Lionsgates, said Dr. Alvarez-Gonzalez.
Although we have not yet started to film, El Secreto del Retrato, had being already widely commented in the main newspapers and magazines in Spain, Chile, United States, Argentina, Mexico, China, Turkey and Panama, the media is gaining curiosity for the secret, said CEO of Planet Films Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez.
